Ask Me How I Am
Ask Me How I am is here to increase awareness of young people’s experiences of self-harm. Using an award-winning film and workshops for professionals and young people, Ask Me How I Am puts young people’s voices at the heart of how we understand and respond.
Young people worked with a team of health and safeguarding experts and an award-winning creative team to create Ask Me How I Am, an animated film challenging how we think about and respond to self-harm.

How we got here
In 2021 Fullscope were commissioned by Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Public Health, funded by NHS England under the wider Wave 4 Suicide Prevention funding, to understand self-harm in children and young people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
In the first year we recruited twelve young people with lived experience of self-harm and helped them to identify the project’s purpose and goals.
In the second year the young people worked with panels of experts and with a creative team at Boundary Pictures and OhStudio to make the “Ask Me How I Am” film. The following year we consulted with professionals about their learning needs and developed the professionals’ workshop.
Another group of 18 young people joined the project and devised a young people’s workshop.
Since 2023 we have been developing our train-the-trainer programme.
By the beginning of 2026 we had reached 680 professionals and 306 young people with workshops and have a trainer network of 32 people.
