New Exhibition of Soham Children’s Prescriptions for Wellbeing at Addenbrooke’s Hospital
A collection of vibrant "planets" illustrating what matters to children is now on display in Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
“I think it’s important that children have a say, because even though we don’t get to vote we are still a part of the community.”
Bethany (aged 10), pupil at The Shade Primary School, speaking on a panel of experts in the Houses of Parliament, November 2025
The work began in 2025 as Mapping Soham Stories, a project commissioned by the East Cambridgeshire Integrated Neighbourhood team and led by Fullscope with artist Hilary Cox Condron. Working with over 1,100 primary school children in Soham, the project used Fullscope’s CareFull co-design principles to ensure every child’s voice was heard.
“Creative health is an approach which can help us move from a focus on treatment to a focus on prevention, as well as being an inclusive approach for hearing what matters from seldom heard voices.”
Ashling Bannon, Integrated Neighbourhood Programme Manager, East Cambs
Each child created a map and wrote their own "prescriptions" for wellbeing. Charlie (aged 9) explained how “I don’t usually tell people about my personality. When I did the map my imagination burst out of my head. It helps me to draw - it makes me look differently. Once I used up my whole rubber. There is less pressure than when we use words. You can explain better. Sometimes you can’t let it out and then you feel stressed.”

The children’s collective wisdom was distilled into six core principles, which have since been shared at the Houses of Parliament and through local exhibitions. The children’s ideas are now a valuable source of material for shaping neighbourhood health plans and also the art commissions and projects for the future Cambridge Children’s Hospital.
